Digitize — AI, Digital & Skills

Fair Work First
Commitment Statement

Digitize is committed to the Scottish Government’s Fair Work First criteria and to creating fair, inclusive and rewarding work for everyone we engage.

Publicly accessible statement — updated March 2026

Digitize is a digital, AI and skills organisation headquartered in Alloa, Clackmannanshire. We design and deliver training programmes, enterprise support and digital solutions for businesses, communities and public sector organisations across Scotland. We are committed to Fair Work First — the Scottish Government’s framework for fair, inclusive and progressive employment and engagement practices — and publish this statement as evidence of that commitment.

💷

Real Living Wage

Digitize commits to paying at least the real Living Wage as defined by the Living Wage Foundation to all workers and contractors directly engaged in the delivery of our programmes and services. We review our rates annually in line with Living Wage Foundation updates.

🤝

Worker Voice and Representation

We actively create mechanisms for the people who work with us to raise concerns, share feedback and contribute to how we operate. We welcome and support effective voice mechanisms including trade union recognition where relevant, and maintain an open-door culture where concerns can be raised without fear of consequence.

📈

Investment in Workforce Development

Workforce development is central to our mission. We invest continuously in the skills and capability of everyone who works with us — through access to our own training programmes, AI and digital skills development, and CPD opportunities. We view learning as an ongoing commitment, not a one-off activity.

📋

No Inappropriate Zero-Hours Contracts

Digitize does not use zero-hours contracts in any way that creates insecurity, unpredictability or unfairness for the people who work with us. Where flexible working arrangements are agreed, they are genuinely mutual, transparent and in the interests of the worker. All contractual arrangements are clear, fair and appropriate to the nature of the engagement.

⚖️

Addressing the Gender Pay Gap

We are committed to creating a diverse, inclusive workplace where pay and opportunity are equitable regardless of gender. We actively monitor our engagement and payment practices for gender equity and take steps to address any disparities identified. Our programmes, including the Digitize Pathways to Enterprise initiative, specifically target the gender gap in entrepreneurial participation as a core programme objective.

🏠

Flexible and Family-Friendly Working

We offer flexible working arrangements to all those who work with us from day one of any engagement — recognising that rigid working patterns are a barrier to participation for carers, parents, people with health conditions and many others. Our programme delivery model is explicitly designed to accommodate caring responsibilities, shift patterns and other life commitments through hybrid and async delivery.

🚫

No Fire and Rehire

Digitize is firmly opposed to fire and rehire practices. We are committed to resolving any employment or contractual issues through fair, transparent and constructive dialogue. We will not use the threat of dismissal and re-engagement as a mechanism to impose changed terms and conditions on the people who work with us.

Note on the Digitize Agents Model

Digitize operates a supported self-employment model — the Digitize Agents network — through which programme graduates operate as independent self-employed practitioners under the Digitize brand. Digitize Agents are not employees or workers of Digitize; they are self-employed individuals who have chosen to operate under a brand licence and community support arrangement.

The Digitize Agents model is an enterprise empowerment initiative, not an employment arrangement. It is designed to provide self-employed individuals with the infrastructure, community and brand support to build sustainable, independent businesses — without creating a relationship of employment or worker status. Digitize Agents set their own hours, find their own clients and are fully responsible for their own tax affairs.

This model is consistent with and supportive of the Fair Work First principles — it creates economic opportunity, reduces the precarity of going it alone, and provides ongoing development support to self-employed individuals who may previously have experienced economic inactivity or exclusion.

Declaration of Commitment

Digitize formally commits to upholding the Fair Work First criteria in all our employment, engagement and contracting practices. We will maintain and update this statement as our organisation develops and as the Fair Work framework evolves.

We understand that receipt of Scottish Government grant funding is conditional on compliance with Fair Work First criteria, and we welcome this as an alignment with our own values as an organisation committed to fairness, inclusion and economic empowerment.

This statement is publicly accessible at wearedigitize.com and will remain so for the duration of any funded project and beyond.
