The pandemic pushed companies over the technology tipping point

According to a report by McKinsey, a successful digital transformation demands fundamental change across every part of the organisation, and this change must come from the top. The report emphasises the importance of CEO and top leadership reimagining their business in a digital age and generating bold visions to generate transformative change.

Whilst leadership and strategic direction is important, It could be argued that the best leaders are the ones who know that they don’t know it all, and instead make space in their organisation for those who are experts in a particular area to make impactful change. That’s why organisations are increasingly hiring for roles like Digital Officers or Digital Architects.

The pandemic put tech on everyone\’s agenda

The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the adoption of technology in business. According to McKinsey, the pandemic has pushed companies over the technology tipping point and transformed business forever. Companies have had to adapt to new ways of working, including remote work and virtual collaboration, which has accelerated the adoption of digital tools and technologies.

There’s no going back now. Our workforce has been exposed to technology enabled flexible working and gone are the days when it’s the ‘norm’ for everyone to spend hours commuting to an office based role. Whilst these roles do still exist, many individuals see flexibility and hybrid working as key benefits of employment.

Overall, it is clear that technology is no longer a standalone sector, but an essential component that underpins the vast majority of businesses. Digital transformation and the adoption of new technologies are critical for businesses to stay competitive and meet changing customer demands. Business leaders must embrace technology and lead their organisations through successful digital transformations to stay relevant in today\’s business landscape.
